For nearly 150 years, St. Mary's Catholic School has partnered with families to provide an education rooted in faith, academic excellence, and service. As the oldest Catholic elementary school in the Diocese of Dallas, our history continues to shape generations of students and leaders.
St. Mary's Catholic School was founded in 1877 by the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur, who came to Sherman with a mission to provide Catholic education to local children. Originally known as St. Joseph's Academy, the school quickly became a cornerstone of both the parish and the surrounding community.
The picture shows when St. Mary’s was originally known as St. Joseph’s Academy.

For generations, St. Mary's has educated the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. While our campus, programs, and classrooms have evolved over time, our commitment to forming students in faith, character, and academic excellence has remained unchanged.
Today, our teachers continue the legacy established by the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur, inspiring students to lead lives of purpose, compassion, and service.
Every student who walks through our doors becomes part of a tradition that spans generations. Guided by faith, strengthened by community, and committed to excellence, St. Mary's continues to build upon its rich history while preparing students for the future.
